Thanks to Jeff over on the OF for making me aware of this. Aparently HMV are only getting limited amounts of copies in the shops. I tried today in both HMV stores in Oxford St, they were sold out. I've downloaded it online and also ordered a physical copy from the online HMV shop...however, the item status reads 'awaiting stock allocation'. I REALLY hope there hasn't been a huge c*ck up in the distribution and shipping of this single...George will do his nut!! After prostituting himself on the X-Factor which, let's face it although it reaches a huge audience, would not be his first choice of programme to appear on, if no-one can now even BUY the damn thing...well let's just say, I wouldn't want to work for Island Records right now!! _________________ Love That Smile! |

That's the site I've just ordered from. When you have paid your order comes through with 'awaiting stock allocation' It's not so much the Christmas card thingy from George I'm fussed about. I already have a version of Edith and The Kingpin and Praying For Time from the download of 'John and Elvis', so I'm not fussed about that either. I just REALLY want a PHYSICAL copy of this...I don't want bloody downloads...ARE YOU LISTENING GEORGE, OR ISLAND RECORDS?

Just had a thought...you don't think George or the record company are holding back the physical versions of the single to boost the sales next week, to try and compete with Little Joe's single? I hope not...although I'd love to see George at number 1 for Christmas...my God, he'd have to shift a lot of copies...those X-Factor Christmas singles regularly sell close to 1 million copies! The other problem of course is that a Christmas single...kinda becomes redundant on December 26th doesn't it? So he hasn't got much time! _________________ Love That Smile! |

Just found this on wikipedia...might explain the limited number of physical copies!! George wants to do the thing as downloads, but needs a small number of physical copies to be available or it is not allowed to be included in the charts.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UK_Singles_Chart
Initially, the British Association of Record Dealers were worried about the popularity of downloading taking away business from the high street. They also complained that including singles that were not available physically would confuse customers and create gaps in stores' sale racks. But they did agree to the new rules provided that digital sales were only included to a single's sales tally so long as there was a physical equivalent sold in shops at the time. However, as there was no rule for the minimum number of pressings, Gorillaz got round this by releasing just 300 vinyl copies of their single "Feel Good Inc." on 12 April 2005, a month before its general release. This allowed it to debut in the chart at number 22 (eventually reaching number 2) and remain in the Top 40 for a longer period. _________________ Love That Smile! |

Getting fishier by the second.. Went into the very same Oxford St that you did Caff, and I was told that it had not even been distributed from the warehouse yet and that they would only be receiving 7 copies in total. Then I went into my local HMV and they told me that it had been discontinued already and that if I wanted an actual copy in my hand I would have to order it online which in retrospect I should have done in the first place had I know this would happen. Anyway, CD on its way from HMV so hopefully I should receive it before christmas- otherwise I want to borrow someones baseball bat, go around George's house and make him give me one personally.... |

At first I have had ordered December Song about hmv but the same day
I found the cd at a media store on saturday (CD and Christmas Card) for less than HMV. So I have canceled my order.
Now I'm a lucky owner of the CD. _________________ Ladies and Gentlemen-The Diva himself

yes you are very lucky !!
I started calling to the UK many weeks ago, but there are no copies available for export (told by island records). They even told me, the cd is not for the HMV stores, only for HMV online !
Now I orderded at amazon, because it is cheaper (delivery costs)
My order at amazon is delayed, so we'll keep on WAITING........... _________________

i was confident that after GM's performance at Xfactor this single would at least be a top ten hit. .. but after reading you guys post i dont even think that it would be a top twenty hit. .. too bad it will have limited number of CD's distributed to the music stores.
sometime i really dont understand the logic George tries to apply these days in terms of sales/marketing/promotion. well we know he hates any kinda promotion.. but he should at least think of his fans..! we love him & his music a lot.. i m so glad that he made an appearance on Xfactor and performed December Song. ... but i want to see the single doin well on the singles chart. i mean its a nice song , has a cute video and its George Michael after all...! till date i have not seen it on VH1 / MTV etc .. maybe there are fans who dont even know about the existense of the new video.
i wonder why George decided to release the single commercially when he is not interested to market/promote or had decided to release limited number of CD's ..?
it is a nice song but without good promotion/marketing it wont be able to make a mark on the UK Singles Chart.
i love George Michael and his music but i think its high time he scores few good hits and markets himself properly. _________________ Abhi |

| I think I've tried every HMV store in London and it's not anywhere. Also on the HMV site it now says the title has been deleted. Simply unbelievable. Not only is George/his label not offering a new song as a single but fans still want to buy it and they won't supply enough copies. Defies all logic. I was so looking forward to owning a copy and I'm sure as hell not forking out 40 pounds or more that the eBay sellers are asking. Island records you should be ashamed. |

i do not understand why George & Island records decided to release limited number of copies for this good single!!
maybe they didnt expect the sales to be this good especially when u have a single from X factor winner coming out at the same time.. or maybe it was George's idea to sell limited number of physical copies.
how often is the video being shown on MTV/Vh1 in UK ?
mid week sales show December Song is on #7 .. its a good news. i m very happy. no way a #1 ...but i 'd be happy if it becomes a Top 5 hit on UK singles chart _________________ Abhi |

Looks great Annemiek
Anyway.. the distribution of the Single is not something George himself takes care of.
It's the record company who makes the decisions about that. _________________ I don't have time for the haters!

Update...from George!!! Thanks to Disney on the OF for posting this!
MICHAEL'S CHRISTMAS SINGLE SELLS OUTGEORGE MICHAEL appears to have underestimated his own popularity - his latest single is set to score low in the U.K.'s Christmas music chart because his record label didn't stock shops with enough CDs.
The Faith hitmaker released December Song on Monday (14Dec09), but the disc proved so well-liked, the physical copies sold out in retail outlets in just one day.
Michael has credited his performance on British reality talent show The X Factor on Saturday (12Dec09), which saw him duet with eventual winner Joe MCElderry, with boosting his popularity.
The singer has reached out to his fans to apologise and reassure them they will still be able to get a copy before Christmas Day (25Dec09).
He tells British TV show Loose Women, "I need to make an apology to my audience out there, because I think my record company rather underestimated the power of The X Factor, actually, and they were kind of taken by surprise and all the records were sold. The actual physical copies that people can give to each other were sold on the Monday, so there isn't anything in the shops for the whole week.
"You can download (the song), but if people want the physical copy - my fans want the physical copy - and I know a lot of them do, you know, and they haven't been able to get hold of it, they will print up more in time for next Monday and Tuesday. It's not going to make the Christmas chart, well it will, but it won't chart very high, but the point is you can get it on the Monday and Tuesday, even if the shops have told you they're out of it and they don't know if they're getting any more. Can you believe that, they ran out on the Monday?" _________________ Love That Smile! |

I've said it many times, we are not from the download generation.
I started calling the UK record company 3 weeks ago, and I think it is stupid that that rang a bell !
George thank you for the apology, let's hope you're right, so the single will be available again. _________________
